Biography Juheon ("JOO-hawn") was born and raised in South Korea. He earned his BA from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, where he majored in Chinese and Business Administration. After graduation, Juheon began his career at the Samsung Electronics headquarters in Suwon, South Korea as part of the Overseas Marketing Team. The job required him to travel regularly across Asia and to work with people from many different cultural backgrounds. The exposure to other cultures, their politics and communities inspired him to quit his job to attend graduate school. Juheon earned his first master’s degree in International Studies from Seoul National University. His thesis examined state policies toward private entrepreneurs and the role of emerging social class in Chinese society. He continued his studies in the United States and received his second master’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany. Moving to Boston, Massachusetts, Juheon pursued his doctoral studies in Political Science at Northeastern University where he studied social capital and resilience under advisor Dr. Daniel Aldrich. His doctoral dissertation, entitled Social Capital in the Face of Natural Hazards: Community Resilience, Post-Disaster Trust, and Disaster Preparedness in East Asian Societies, examined the social and political impacts of natural hazards in East Asian societies. Currently, Juheon is enjoying his life with his family in Easton, Pennsylvania.
