Biography
Juheon ("JOO-hawn") was born and raised in South Korea. He earned his BA from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, where he majored in Chinese and minored in Business. After graduation, he began his career at the Samsung Electronics headquarters in Suwon, South Korea, as part of the Overseas Marketing Team. The job required him to travel regularly across Asia and inspired him to study international politics. Juheon earned his master’s degree in International Studies from Seoul National University. His thesis was entitled "State Policies toward Private Entrepreneurs and the Role of Emerging Social Class in Chinese Society." Dr. Young-Nam Cho was the mentor who guided him to the fields of political science. Juheon continued his studies in the United States and received his master’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany, where he studied nationalism, post-Communism, and contentious politics under the guidance of Dr. Cheng Chen. Moving to Boston, Juheon pursued his doctoral studies in Political Science at Northeastern University, where he researched environmental politics and disaster resilience under advisor Dr. Daniel P. Aldrich. His doctoral dissertation was entitled "Social Capital in the Face of Natural Hazards: Community Resilience, Post-Disaster Trust, and Disaster Preparedness in East Asian Societies." His study of resilience continues as an active member of Aldrich Resilience Lab. Juheon started his postdoctoral career as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Lafayette College, where he met great mentors and friends. Recently, he joined Midwestern State University as an Assistant Professor of Political Science and is enjoying his life with family in the State of Texas.
